[Thesis: Evaluating Innovation Policies with Behavioural Additionality in China]

e: yxun@essex.ac.uk

At present Yan Xu started his PhD studies in Entrepreneurship at the University of Essex in October 2007. He studies ‘behavioural additionality’, particularly in China. He holds a Masters degree in Management from Brunel University in the UK, and a Bachelor degree from Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology in China. He once had a placement in Shijiazhuang Electric Power Corporation in China, working on financial analysis and market of power.

Doctoral research outline

The purpose of his study is to examine the firm’s behaviour changes due to government intervention. Over the last few years with policy makers increasingly worrying about the efficiency and effectiveness of the grants to firms’ innovation, the rapidly emerging concept of ‘behavioural additionality’ has been of growing importance. The strongest proof of additionality seems to be when there is a statistically significant difference between funded projects and the non-funded ones. Therefore, the study aims to collect typical samples in China and examine the contextual factors influencing the emergence and development of behavioural additionality.
