Prior to joining SEB, University of Essex, Asma held an MBA and a BBA (HONS) from Institute of Management Studies, University of Peshawar, N.W.F.P. Pakistan. Also at Peshawar University, she completed a Masters degree in Economics and a Bachelors’ degree. During her studies, she was awarded Gold Medals in the Peshawar Board in HSSC, in BBA (HONS) and MBA at the Institute of Management Studies.

Doctoral research outline

This research is an exploration of critical issues encountered by women entrepreneurs in District Peshawar, NWFP Pakistan. This study will focus on immediate problems faced by women entrepreneurs including lack of job opportunities for women, women’s lack of marketable skills, low-paid and low-status jobs for women, casualization of employment contracts, high rate of underemployment and unemployment among women, exploitative working conditions, male-dominated trade unions, etc. and other underlying problems centred round the exploitation of gender, race, and class.
