School of Entrepreneurship & Business
Research at SEB
The School of Entrepreneurship and Business is one of the key components of the University of Essex at its Southend Campus.
Research is critical to the successful evolution and development of the School. The research strategy of SEB is informed by the main objectives of the School and reflects the School’s holistic approach to the learning and teaching of, research on, enquiry into and dissemination of entrepreneurship and business.
Critical to the formulation of a research strategy at SEB is the acceptance of four fundamental priorities for entrepreneurship and business research, namely, its:
- Complexity – of concepts, issues, methodologies and association of the subject;
- Multidisciplinarity – use of concepts across and from disciplines, research design and methodologies;
- Substantiveness – recognition of antecedents and varied body of extant research; and
- Significant topicality – widespread acceptance of the value of entrepreneurship and business research fro practice, policy making and in the competitive academic environment.
Research interests
The school’s research interests have been organised along two platforms:
1) a broad generic platform covering business management issues, and
2) a specific, focused Centre for Entrepreneurship Research (CER) which supports research into entrepreneurship and innovation.
The generic platform is loosely organised to account for individual research interests including:
- Entrepreneurial management;
- Marketing;
- International business;
- Organisational behaviour;
- Human resources; and
- Economic regeneration.
CER provides a focus on various aspects of new venture creation, innovative growth, and the impact of entrepreneurship on regional economic development.
