MSc Social and Community Enterprise Management

This programme is concerned with the highly topical international subject of social and community enterprise. The scheme allows for the critical study of people and organisations engaged in taking risk on behalf of their customers and stakeholders, those who look for new ways in which to serve their constituencies or add value to existing services, and the need to weigh both social and financial return on investments.

The programme examines the wider landscape of social entrepreneurship by first locating it within the framework of entrepreneurship and then distinguishing between issues of social responsibility of businesses and community-based social entrepreneurship, the effective use of social capital and social networking as key assets in developing such enterprises and how these assets are combined innovatively with traditional ones of technology, human and financial capital to generate economic growth and social cohesion.
This programme should be of special interest to students seeking career opportunities as social entrepreneurs in social enterprises, enablers and leaders of community-based initiatives, to aspiring consultants and advisers for the public sector as well as mentors for the non-for-profit sectors. It is also relevant for those who want to engage with change and the management of social enterprise projects and those who are particularly interested in the value of human and social capital.
