FdA in Project Management

The FdA in Project Management is a part time, modular course which aims to provide students with a sound understanding of the principles of Project Management and their application to both their own workplace and other organisations. It has been developed in response to national and local recognition of the growing requirement for qualified project managers.

The course encompasses the environmental context of projects, methodologies employed, strategy, planning, leadership, team working and the project lifecycle from inception through development to execution and finally evaluation.

Work-based learning and personal development modules have also been designed to apply theory practically to the workplace and allow flexibility for students who may change employment or be unemployed for a period during the course.

In response to employer input, the programme aims to develop transferable skills in communication, presentation, team working and problem solving, which are considered essential for successful project managers. Students will gain an understanding of change management and be encouraged to develop a positive, adaptable outlook.

Students enrolling on this programme are expected to be in employment and will require the support of an employer in order to complete the work-based element of the course successfully. This support will include providing access to information and work-based learning opportunities.

Learning and assessment processes will maximise interchange between the work place and academic learning as many assignments centre on workplace projects, building on the work-based learning embedded in the study programme.
