Continuing Professional and Executive Management Development Programmes (CPD)

The School of Entrepreneurship and Business is introducing a range of novel continuing professional and management development (CPD and EMD) programmes aimed at:

The CPD and EMD programmes are organised as a series of accredited and unaccredited courses as shown in the following chart:

1. The Venture Academy Series Unaccredited series - 3 days over 3 months.
2. Research Project-Based Series Unaccredited awareness raising sessions customised for project sponsors, funders and research respondents.
3. The Public Management Series Accredited/Non-Accredited courses drawn from a menu of sector-specific courses covering governance, capacity building, information management, economic regeneration, stakeholder relationship management.
4. The Growing Business Series Accredited/non-accredited courses drawn from a set covering topics such as Creativity and Ideas Generation, Marketing the Growing Venture, Financial Management, Networking, Customer Relationship Management.
5. The International Venture Series Accredited/Non-accredited courses designed for the established business or the fast-growing new venture including modules on International Business Environment, International Marketing, Strategic Alliances, Joint Venturing and Partnerships, Financing international Ventures.
6. The SEB Seasonal Schools Summer and Winter Schools of 2 weeks in duration comprising independent or a set of courses covering issues of Entrepreneurial Culture, Regional Development, International Business Environment, Networks, Social and Community Enterprise Management, coupled with language classes.
7. Master Class Series Bi-monthly one day unaccredited master class sessions given by acclaimed practitioners and researchers together with SEB staff covering topical issues of the day.

 

The accredited courses leads to 3 levels of qualifications:

a) the Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits)
b) the Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits)
c) the Masters Degree (180 credits)

These courses are made available over two terms – autumn and spring in any academic year (October to July) as part of the modular route through to a Masters Degree. CPD and EMD students can join the courses at any time during the year when they are running and they may choose any selection of courses subject to their availability during any term. Exit routes are available at each of the 3 levels. All students opting for accredited provision need to complete the full set of assessments for these programmes.

Accredited courses are also available as customised provision for individual organisations subject to an optimum number of participants, subject to negotiation between the organisation and SEB.

Unaccredited courses are also available for participants who are seeking updates for their learning. These are available in two forms:

1) as part of the courses referred to above, but where delegates do not complete assessments; and/or
2) as customised provision for specific cohorts of delegates of different organisations.

Duration and Delivery of CPD and EMD Programmes

Typical accredited and non-accredited courses are delivered in a mix of 3-5 day blocks of 5-6 hours per day, and/or 10 week modules of 2-3 hours per week.

Customised programmes are subject to negotiation with the customer based on customer needs and quality assurance objectives.
