School of Entrepreneurship & Business
The Crystal Room International Club
Internationalisation is integral to all of SEB’s activities. The International Club (IC) has been set up to promote SEB’s international research, teaching and management development programmes to practitioners and policy-makers. Operating more as a network-based activity, supporting seminars, conferences, and other events concerned with Essex’s role in global enterprise, the club has worked with Essex Regional Development Agency, East of England International, Business Link, and various businesses to promote links with China, India, Eastern Europe and other countries, covering issues such as high technology, business clusters, education and training.
A key feature of the IC is the annual conference held in conjunction with the International Enterprise Forum (IEF), which works in partnership with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Research and the Local Employment and Economic Development Programme of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris. These IEF conferences bring together international researchers, business practitioners and policy-makers to deliberate, explore and generate new ideas for entrepreneurship and innovation, and its study, research, policy-making and practice. Successful events in Cape Town, South Africa (5th IEF – 2005), and Riga, Latvia (6th IEF – 2006) have enabled new institutional partnerships to be formed with a view to realising some of the objectives of the club.
This networking platform provides the School with the necessary raw materials with which to build a specific initiative centred around the development of strategic business-education partnerships at the global level involving businesses and institutional partners from targeted countries. Preparations are now in place for focused activities with Chinese, Indian, Brazilian, and other European partners.
